On Thursday, 5,000 passengers aboard a Costa Cruises’ ship were not allowed to disembark the vessel as an abundance of caution after one of the passengers reported to have flu like symptoms while visiting a port in Italy.

The quarantine was lifted the following day after the passenger was taken to a local hospital.

Carnival Corporation, the parent company of Costa Cruises, sent out a press release stating that the passenger was diagnosed with the common flu, not coronavirus.

Carnival said that the cruise ship resumed it’s Mediterranean program yesterday.  The cruise line accommodated passengers in hotels who were delayed in boarding the ship.

Costa Smeralda is the cruise line’s newest and largest cruise ship at 180,000 gross tons.  The vessel is currently offering cruises in Europe.
