Now like many other cruise lines, Norwegian Cruise Line has extended its suspension of operations due to the current international health crisis.

NCL Extends Cruise Suspension Due to Coronavirus

We’re now seeing all the cruise lines extend the voluntary suspension of cruise operations as the deadly virus continues to impact the world. Norwegian Cruise Line has announced an extension across the fleet through May 10, 2020. Cruises are now scheduled to start again with embarkations commencing on May 11, 2020.

The extension applies to all brands owned by the company which includes Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. Frank Del Rio, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd said:

“With COVID-19 continuing to have a significant impact on communities throughout the world, we are extending our temporary suspension of cruise voyages across our three brands through May 10th

“While we understand this disruption may inconvenience our loyal guests and valued travel partners, we are committed first and foremost to protecting the safety, security and well-being of our guests, crew, and the communities we visit. We appreciate their continued understanding as we navigate through these unprecedented times and do our part to help global efforts to contain this pandemic.”

Any guests booked on the cancelled sailings are receiving compensation from the cruise line company. They will automatically get a 125% or 150% refund of the cruise fare which will be Future Cruise Credit applies towards another NCL cruise through December 31, 2022. The Future Cruise Credit will be added to the account by April 1, 2020.

To keep bookings going the cruise line has even added an extra benefit with an additional 20 percent discount of rebooked by April 14 using the Future Cruise Credit. Guests can also receive a simple refund of their cruise if they no longer want to go ahead in the future. All the details are on the NCL site and here is a form that can be used only for those impacted by the new extension of suspension.

The voluntary suspension by the cruise line has already been in place since March 13 as we posted right here. The fleet now remains in port or anchored at sea as crew members remain onboard due to travel restrictions.
