Royal Caribbean Passenger Dies After Overboard

We are sad to report that a 46-year-old man from Naples, Florida has died after jumping overboard the large Oasis of the Seas cruise ship which is operated by Royal Caribbean. While the vessel was docked in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico on Wednesday night the man went overboard.

He apparently went from deck 10 and fell around 177 feet into the water below sometime before 7:50 last night. Procedures were launched by Oasis of the Seas including boats to search for the passenger in the water. According to local authorities, divers also were used who eventually found the body.

At the time no other vessel was allowed to enter or exit the port and a safety zone was established. Also docked next to Oasis of the Seas was Norwegian Bliss operated by Norwegian Cruise Line. The Royal Caribbean ship had a delayed departure from the port.

The U.S. Coast Guard was involved in the search effort with several assets. CCTV footage had confirmed that the guest intentionally went overboard the cruise ship which is one of the largest in the world. Many guests also went up to the open decks to try and locate the overboard man. Our thoughts go out to the man’s family and friends during this very difficult time.
