Royal Caribbean has canceled two cruises for Quantum of the Seas due to travel restrictions from the deadly Coronavirus which is spreading worldwide.
Quantum of the Seas Sailings Canceled
Royal Caribbean has canceled two sailings for Quantum of the Seas due to the Coronavirus and the travel restrictions it is now forcing in many countries in Asia. The departures from Singapore on February 15 and February 24 will no longer take place.
The cruise line has informed all guests booked on the sailings and is providing full refunds to them. Future sailings from the city are closely being monitored which was tweeted by the cruise line, “We truly appreciate your patience and understanding during this hectic time. While no decision has been made to cancel all future sailings departing from Singapore, we’re continuing to closely monitor the situation, should this be necessary.”
This will no doubt disappoint many cruisers including those who are doing back to back. The ship was originally scheduled to sail from Singapore on February 15 and then out of Hong Kong back to Singapore departing on February 24.
The cruise line has already been dealing with the Coronavirus outbreak by already canceling and adjusting sailings in the region including for Spectrum of the Seas out of Shanghai. Royal Caribbean has also implemented new travel policies in response to the virus.
In addition to the cancelations for Quantum of the Seas, the cruise line has also altered restrictions and is no longer denying nationals from Chain, Hong Kong and Macau to cruise. However, the 15-day policy for those who have traveled to any of those countries or in close contact remains active.
Anthem of the Seas also had a scare last week when Chinese nationals were taken off the vessel in ambulances fearing Coronavirus infections. After tests from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), they were negative. The vessel still departed days later on an altered itinerary.
The virus has so far infected more than 43,000 and killed 1,107 mainly in China. The virus also now has the name of COVID-19 and it first started from the Chinese city of Wuhan in Hubei Province in December 2019.
